Normally what you wear is a matter of looking good and feeling good about yourself. It's important to dress well to be taken seriously and to boost your own confidence and this can have many far reaching effects on other areas of your life such as your career and your relationships. However when you ride a motorbike, what you wear becomes even more important and in fact a matter of life and death as it is no longer just a form of fashion but a form of protection should you fall off of your bike.
There are many elements to your protective clothing when you ride a motorbike such as your helmet, your motorcycle boots and your motorcycle jacket. A good motorcycle jacket will be made of a highly thick material and this will mean that should you fall off of your bike, you won't graze your skin and tear through your clothes as you might normally. This can stop serious burns and a lot of visible damage and is a very important consideration. At the same time some motorcycle jackets will include space for additional padding which can slot into your coat and protect localised areas from impact. This can then absorb the blow of the initial fall and prevent you from getting seriously bruised or for breaking bones. At the same time it can protect you should your motorcycle potentially fall on you, or should you be hit by another vehicle and these are both very important considerations when you fall.

Also important is to choose good motorcycle boots. Your feet and ankles are highly exposed when you are driving a motorcycle, particularly as they are so close to the ground. Without protection then it is possible to seriously graze your ankles while going around corners etc. At the same time the motorcycle boots will have good grip and will give you a better control over your bike and this way prevent an accident from occurring in the first place.
Finally your motorcycle helmet will also give you a lot of protection should you hit the road and protects your head specifically which is perhaps the part of the body most vulnerable to serious impact. At the same time a motorcycle helmet comes with a visor which should help to protect you against wind and/or debris blowing up into your face from the road while still allowing you to see where you are going. Good helmets will furthermore be designed to allow some air to get inside so as to provide 'ventilation' and prevent you from becoming stuffy or finding it hard to breath. The final element of a good helmet is the way its sealed which will allow you to fasten it to your head and keep it there while driving. There are many types and makes of helments such as Arai helmets or Shoei helmets.

There are many other accessories and types of clothing that can help you to keep you safe such as motorbike gloves or thick leather trousers. It is important you look after every aspect of your protection to prevent and reduce injury.
